Md. Imran dominates 1st Spark Chess Academy Rating Open 2024

15-year-old Md. Imran scored an unbeaten 9.5/10 to win 1st Spark Chess Academy Rating Open 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. 12-year-old Sree Shaunak Chanda scored sole 8.5/10 to secure second place. He also remained undefeated. Six players scored 8/10. Out of them, another 15-year-old Sri Charan Sandipagu claimed third place according to tie-breaks. He is the only person to snatch a half point from the eventual champion, Imran. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500222. The top three prizes were ₹70000, ₹40000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. The six-day rating tournament was organized by Spark Chess Academy from 25th to 30th April 2024 at Shamrock International School in Kanuru, Vijayawada. Teenagers claim top four

Second seeded FM Md. Imran was the sole leader 8.5/9 heading into the final round. He was a full point ahead of the others. A draw would have sufficed for him to become the champion, yet he decided to go for the full point and managed to beat FM J Ramakrishna. Sri Charan Sandipagu drew with Vihaan Karthikeya N. Afreed T Khan lost to Sree Shaunak Chanda. Thus, Shaunak became a clear second and Sri Charan third.

A total of 398 players took part from all over the country and two from the USA in this six-day ten round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Spark Chess Academy at Shamrock International School in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh from 25th to 30th April 2024. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
