The wait is finally over—the second edition of this mega chess event is officially confirmed! The tournament will take place from April 26 to May 3, 2025, at the beautiful ITI Marina Beach Hotel & Resort in Orosei, Sardinia. Recognized as the strongest chess tournament in Italy, the Sardinia World Chess Festival attracts top players and enthusiasts from around the globe. The festival will feature three competitive categories. One of the festival's standout features is its impressive prize fund. Italy’s strongest chess tournament returns from April 26 to May 3, 2025, at the ITI Marina Beach Hotel & Resort in Orosei, Sardinia. Featuring three competitive categories and a total prize pool of €50,100, the festival promises thrilling matches and international participation.

Tournament Categories
Open A (ELO ≥ 2000)
- Registrations will be reassessed based on the April ELO rating list update
- Players with an ELO over 2450 are exempt from paying the registration fee
- The Organizing Committee reserves the right to accept up to 10 wild cards per open for players with insufficient ELO. Requests to participate in a different tournament category must be submitted via email
Open B (ELO < 1999)
- Registrations will be reassessed based on the April ELO rating list update
- The Organizing Committee reserves the right to accept up to 10 wild cards per open for players with insufficient ELO. Requests to participate in a different tournament category must be submitted via email
Open C (ELO < 1699)
Tournament Format and Rules
- All tournaments (Open A, Open B, and Open C) will be composed of 9 rounds
- Time Control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, plus 30 minutes to finish the game, with a 30-second increment starting from the first move.
- Pairing System: Swiss system.
Tiebreaks
The following tiebreak criteria will be used at the end of the tournament:
1. Buchholz Total
2. Buchholz Cut 1
3. Sonneborn-Berger
4. ARO (Average Rating of Opponents)
Half-Point Bye
Half-point byes will be assigned according to the Italian Chess Federation Technical Regulations
Registration
Players can register to the tournament by choosing to stay at the official hotel, or to find a different accommodation (please be reminded that in such case an additional fee of 50.00 Euros will be calculated along with the entry fee, Sardinian players are exempted from the additional fee payment).

Players with an ELO over 2450 are exempted from paying the registration fee.
