Tech Mahindra GCL 2025 Day 2: upGrad Mumba Masters and Triveni Continental Kings win two in-a-row

upGrad Mumba Masters and Triveni Continental Kings are the only two teams to have won both of their matches at Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2025. Fyers American Gambits suffered a close 7-9 loss against upGrad Mumba Masters. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (uMM) and Bardiya Daneshvar (uMM) scored the crucial wins for their team. Hikaru Nakamura's sole win could not save his team. Star studded, SG Alpine Pipers suffer their second consecutive loss of the event. This time against Ganges Grandmasters by 7-13. PBG Alaskan Knights suffered a massive defeat 3-15 against the reigning and defending two-time champions, Triveni Continental Kings. Alpine SG Pipers loses their second consecutive match

Match #4: Fyers American Gambits - upGrad Mumba Masters: 0-3 (7-9)

Hikaru Nakamura (FAG) scored the sole win for his team against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (uMM). Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Bardiya Daneshvar were the victors for upGrad Mumba Masters against Richard Rapport and Volodar Murzin of Fyers American Gambits respectively. The remaining three games ended in draws.

Position after 21.Raf1!

White made a nice exchange sacrifice 21.Raf1! gxf4 22.Rxf4 Qd7 23.Bxf6 Bxa4 24.Qb1 Rhe8 25.Bxd8+ Qxd8 26.e5 and White won the game in the next few moves.

Match #5: Alpine SG Pipers - Ganges Grandmasters: 0-3 (7-13)

Fabiano Caruana (ASGP) and GM Nino Batsiashvili (ASGP) scored the two wins for their team against Vishy Anand (GG) and IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GG) respectively. Javokhir Sindarov, IM Polina Shuvalova and Raunak Sadhwani scored the victories for Ganges Grandmasters over R Praggnanandhaa, GM Yifan Hou and Leon Luke Mendonca respectively.

Anish Giri (ASGP) got himself a decisive advantage against Vincent Keymer (GG) in less than 20 moves. However, he could not maintain his advantage 18...Rd8 19.Bxf5 alternative was Qh5 19...exf5 20.Qh4 Qf8 21.d5 Ba6 22.Rfd1 Rac8 23.Qh3 Be2 24.Rd4 Rc4 25.Qxf5? and White's advantage went up in the air.

44.Kf1 would have kept White in the game. 44.Kg1?? gave Black the winning advantage 44...Nh4-+ 45.h3 Kg6 46.Rc7 Nxf3+ 47.Kf1 Kf5 48.Rf7+ Ke4 49.Re7+ Kf4 50.Rc7 Kg3 51.Rc2 Rxb7 and Black won.

PBG Alaskan Knights suffered a massive loss 3-15 against Triveni Continental Kings. Alireza Firouzja (TCK), GM Jiner Zhu (TCK) and Marc` Andria Maurizzi (TCK) scored a win each against D Gukesh (PBG AK), GM Kateryna Lagno (PBG AK) and Daniel Dardha (PBG AK) respectively.
