Unbeaten Savitha Shri Wins Individual Gold as Indian Women Clinch Bronze at 46th Chess Olympiad

The Indian Women's team secured a bronze medal at the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad. In the final round, Team India drew against Georgia to finish in 3rd place with 17 match points. China dominated the Women's section and scored 20 points to clinch the Gold. Kazakhstan secured the silver medal with 18 points. Savitha Shri played another fantastic game in the final round to make sure the Indian team secured a medal. She scored an unbeaten 9/10 points to secure the gold medal on the 5th board. Bronze Medal: Team India

Survived a scare

In the final round against Georgia, the start was perfect as Koneru Humpy scored a quick 24-move win over Nana Dzagnidze. But Divya Deshmukh made a huge mistake and lost her game; Vantika had already drawn her game. Now everything depended on Savitha's game, and she was in a terrible position, but throughout this tournament we saw her flipping this kind of position, and she managed to hold a draw, which was enough for indian team to secure bronze.

India wins the Nona Gaprindashvili Cup

In 2022, the Indian team secured a bronze medal in both sections in Chennai. In 2024, India secured Gold in both the Open and Women's sections in Budapest, and this year the Indian team managed to secure a silver medal in the Open and bronze in the Women's section.

For the 3rd consecutive time, India won the Nona Gaprindashvili Cup, for the best combined performance across the Open and Women’s sections. This shows that India is slowly and steadily becoming the superpower of Chess
