4-way tie at the top after 5 rounds of play at the Tata Steel 4th All India Specially abled Chess Tournament

The Tata Steel 4th All India FIDE Rated Specially abled Chess Tournament 2024 is taking place at the JRD Sports Complex in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Tata Steel Ltd. is the organizer of the event, under the aegis of CFPD - Chess Federation for Physically disabled Chess players. After 5 rounds of play, there is a 4-way tie at the top with 4.5/5 points - Naveen Kumar A (1986, AP), Venkata Krishna Karthik K (1889,AP), Samarth J Rao (1770, KAR) and Nabhneel Das (1520, UP) are co-leading with 4.5/5 points. A total of 68 players are taking part in this 9-round classical swiss event. There are 3 more rounds to go, the 6th round starts from 9:30 AM IST today, 27th June. Four players share the lead in Specially abled Chess in Jamshedpur

Tata Steel Ltd. and Tata Steel Foundation are organizing the 4th All India FIDE Rated Chess tournament for specially abled Chess player in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand from 24th-28th June 2024. 5 rounds have been completed in the tournament so far, and there are four players who are sharing the lead scoring 4.5/5 points each. Check out a short description of the opening ceremony and each of the rounds below:

Opening Ceremony

The Tata Steel 4th All India FIDE Rated Specially abled Chess Championship kicked off at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand! The opening ceremony of this very special tournament took place on 24th evening.

There were several dignitaries present at the opening ceremony today. Among the chief guests were India's 3rd GM Pravin Thipsay, Mr. Chanakya Chaudhury - Vice President of Tata Steel Corporate services, Mr. Mukul Chaudhury - Chief of Sports for Tata Steel and CEO of Jamshedpur Football club, Miss Vibhuti Adesara - Tata Steel Head Sports, Mr. Jayawant Hammanawar - General Secretary of the Paralympic committee of India, and IA Anandh Babu VL - the Chief Arbiter of the tournament and the treasurer of Chess Federation for Physically disabled. There were several other special guests present in the ceremony!

Day one - Round 1-3:

After 3 rounds of play, there were only 6 players leading with a perfect 3/3 score at the Tata Steel 4th All India Specially-abled Chess Championship 2024 at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

Vaibhav Gautam (1640, DEL) is the 5th seed of the tournament, and off to a great start!

The top two seeds, Naveen Kumar A (1986, AP) and Venkata Krishna Karthik K (1889, AP) are off to a great start with 3 wins, as have four other players - Pamarthi Auditeya Aazadh (1663, TEL), Vaibhav Gautam (1640, DEL), Kannan V. (1568, TN), and Shankar Ramakrishnan (1560, TN).

Day two - Round 4-5:

After 5 rounds of play at the 4th Tata Steel All India Specially-abled Chess Championship 2024, there are 4 players sharing the lead!

Naveen Kumar A (1986, AP), Venkata Krishna Karthik K (1889, AP), Samarth J Rao (1770, KAR), and Nabhneel Das (1520, UP) are co-leaders with 4.5/5 points. The top board battle between Naveen and Venkata ended in a draw, while Samarth and Nabhneel won their respective games.
