Tata Steel 4th All India Chess Tournament for specially abled Chess players starts on 24th June

The Tata Steel 4th All India FIDE Rated Specially abled Chess Championship 2024 is taking place in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand this year! The event will run from 24th-28th June at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. This will be a 9-round classical tournament with India's best specially abled chess players taking part! Samarth J Rao won the 3rd edition of this tournament back in 2022. A total of 64 players are taking part in the tournament from various states. The tournament is organized by Tata Steel Limited and Tata Steel Foundation, under the aegis of Chess Federation for physically disabled. We will be covering this tournament live from the venue! 4th All India Chess Tournament for Specially abled players

In the Chess World, there are many stars - players who are recognized for their amazing games, tournament victories, and high ratings. These are the superstars of the Chess world often discussed about. But there are so many more inspiring personalities in chess out there, people we should speak more about. There are people who are specially abled, who in spite of their physical challenges, play the game of 64 squares and compete in tournaments. This event is a celebration to all those superstars - Tata Steel Limited and Tata Steel Foundation, under the aegis of Chess Federation for Physically disabled, is organizing the 4th All India FIDE Rated Chess tournament for Specially abled players!

The tournament will take place at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand this year!

Tournament venue and schedule

The tournament will take place from 24th-28th June 2024 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. This will be a 9-round classical tournament with a time control of 60 minutes + 30 second increment starting from move one.

The opening ceremony of the tournament will take place at 6 PM on 24th June. On the first day of play (25th), 3 rounds of Chess will be played, followed by 2 rounds each on the next 3 days.

Prizes

The tournament Champion (Open section, including players with Locomotor Disabilities, Deaf and Dumb) will receive a cash prize of Rs. 25,000! There are also several other categories like Wheel Chair, Unrated, Women, U19 Junior Open and Girls. The total prize fund of the tournament is Rs. 3,17,000!

Venkata Krishna Karthik K (1889) is the 2nd seed. He finished as runners-up in the 3rd All India Physically Challenged Rating Chess Championship 2022. Karthik was the Champion of Super Heroes Cup 2021!

Tata Steel Foundation and Tata Steel Limited are the organizers of this tournament. Tata Steel is an Indian Multinational Steel-making company, known among the largest steel producing companies in the world. Their support towards Chess has been there for a long time - Tata Steel Chess in Wijk Aan Zee every year is one of the most popular chess events, known as the Wimbledon of Chess! India's premier Chess event - Tata Steel Chess India is also organized by Tata Steel.
