Dubai Police Open: Aravindh-Visakh's dominance unshaken despite consecutive draws

Even after the conclusion of the fifth and sixth rounds in the Dubai Police Open, Indian Grandmasters Aravindh Chithambaram and Visakh N R continue to maintain their lead. With only three rounds remaining, the question arises whether either of them will clinch the coveted title.

In the fifth round, the highly anticipated clash between Aravindh and Visakh ended in a draw. Playing with the white pieces, Aravind encountered Visakh's Nimzo-Indian Opening and faced relentless aggression, resulting in a draw after 64 moves of continuous check by Visakh.

Across the top 10 boards, a total of nine matches remained inconclusive in the fifth round, with players sharing points. Notably, Aditya Mittal secured a victory on the ninth board by defeating Igor Mildinovic.

Despite Aravindh and Visakh's steady performance, several seeded players are striving for a comeback. Top seeds such as China's Yu Yangyi, Hans Neimann, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan, Abhimanyu Puranik, and Vasyl Ivanchuk registered wins in subsequent rounds.

In the sixth round, a significant figure inaugurated the round: Mohammad AlMulla, an astronaut by profession and also a proficient chess player. Let's delve into the ChessBase India interview conducted by Aditya Sur Roy to learn more.
